Perspectives...

I have been seeing these pop up all over facebook...The perceptions of others about our lives. I thought I´d share a few of my favorites...and then my thoughts on them.

The concept of others perceptions of us is not new. In fact, some of the oldest writings of the Bible talk about this very topic:

1 Samuel 16:7: But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

Isaiah 2:22: Stop trusting in mere humans, who have but a breath in their nostrils. Why hold them in esteem?

The first chapter of the book of Jeremiah also talks about how the Lord called Jeremiah to be a prophet. The Lord told him not to be afraid of what they thought of him or their misconceptions of him, but to speak what the Lord would tell him without fear.

I think it is our natural tendency to worry about what others think of us. We want to be liked. Loved. Appreciated. It means a lot for us to have the approval of others. The world especially values this. It´s allllllll about image. How we look. How we dress. What we have. But I think it is an important matter to remember how God sees us....

How I see my heart

How Jesus sees my heart

How my sins look.........How Jesus sees me when I ask for forgiveness

How far I can feel from God..............................How far he is from me

The kind of sheep I tend to be.....................The kind of sheep Jesus wants me to be
